On January 28th, the global catalog of Netflix a South Korean live-action series titled. We Are Dead (All of Us Are Dead), based on the webtoon written and illustrated by Joo Dong-geun, “Now at Our School“, published between 2009 and 2011. However, the plot of the series has raised more than one eyebrow among the Japanese.
It turns out that a Japanese commentary forum shared the premiere of this series and compared it to other series in “zombie themed in a school” as Gakkougurashi! (School-Live!) y Highschool of the Dead. Notable opinions include:
- “Why do Korean dramas always copy Japanese animation?“.
- “Which anime did they take it from this time?“.
- “Girls and boys in a school taken over by zombies, where have I seen this before?“.
- “I’ve heard that story before…“
- “This is a common scenario in B movies.“.
- “Romances are the ones that take the top spots and stay there for a long time. This one is going to fall out of the rankings fairly quickly.“.
- “Why doesn’t Japan produce as many great live-action works as South Korea?“.
- “Do you also plant cabbages on the roof?“.
To his misfortune, it turns out that Gakkougurashi! (School-Live!) is the worst comparison the Japanese could have made, since the original manga began publication in 2012, three years after the webtoon that inspired this South Korean live-action began publication. On the other hand, although the manga of Highschool of the Dead began publication in 2006, three years before the start of the webtoon in question, only the first arc takes place inside the school.
